Lesson 5: Execution Roadmap

Your 12-Month Path to $200K/Year in Publishing Rights

Lesson Navigation

← Course Index

The Goal

Year 1: $30K-50K (validation + first deals)

Year 2: $100K-150K (portfolio scaling)

Year 3: $200K+ (20 titles at $10K each)

The Two-Track Strategy

You'll run TWO parallel tracks simultaneously:

Track Focus Time/Week Revenue Timeline
Track 1: Ground Apples Harvest immediate $10K-100K opportunities 10-15 hours 30-90 days to first deal
Track 2: System Building Build 4 AI tools + systematic outreach 5-10 hours 6-12 months to portfolio income

Why This Works

Ground apples fund your lifestyle while you build systems. By Month 6, you have $20K-40K from ground apples + systematic pipeline filling. By Year 2, ground apples become optional (portfolio generates recurring revenue).

Realistic Time Commitment

  • Weeks 1-8: 20-25 hours/week (building + hunting)
  • Months 3-6: 15-20 hours/week (maintenance + deals)
  • Months 7-12: 10-15 hours/week (portfolio management)
  • Year 2+: 10 hours/week (mostly follow-ups + new deals)

⚠️ This Is Not Passive Income

Year 1 requires real work. You're building relationships, closing deals, managing fulfillment. By Year 2, it becomes more passive (recurring revenue from portfolio), but you're never 100% hands-off.

Build Your Foundation + First AI Tools

Week 1 Is Front-Loaded

This is your heaviest week. You're building frameworks AND tools. After this, time commitment drops significantly.

Deliverables (6 hours total):

✅ Milestone: Immune System Installed

You now have filters that prevent wrong optimization and bad deals. Everything else builds on this.

Deliverables (12 hours total):

✅ Milestone: First AI Tools Live

Portal generator works, inflection point alerts arriving, first outreach in motion.

Deliverables (7 hours total):

🎉 Week 1 Complete: All 4 AI Systems Live

You now have:

  • 2 frameworks (Right-Size Model, Blue Ocean Filter)
  • 4 AI tools (Portal Gen, Inflection Detector, Counterfeit Reports, CRM)
  • 10 authors contacted with 40-60% expected open rate
  • Systematic process that runs with 10-15 hours/week maintenance

Hunt Urgent Opportunities While Building Pipeline

Dual Focus

Track 1: Ground apple hunting (inflection points, quick closes)

Track 2: Systematic pipeline building (10 new leads/week)

Day Activity Time Output
Monday CRM review + inflection point sweep 1 hour Follow-ups sent, new ground apples identified
Tuesday Keepa book research + valuation 3 hours 10 new books qualified, 5-7 passed filter
Wednesday Contact info hunting + outreach prep 3 hours 5-7 authors contacted (email + postcard for 70+)
Thursday Portal generation for engaged authors 2 hours 2-3 new portals live
Friday Ground apple rapid response 3 hours 1-2 urgent opportunities contacted within 24 hours
Weekend Deep work: valuations, contracts, negotiations 3 hours 1-2 deals in negotiation
Metric Target/Week 3-Week Total
New leads added to CRM 10 30
Outreach sent (email + postcard) 7-10 21-30
Author responses 2-4 6-12
Portals generated 2-3 6-9
Ground apples identified 1-2 3-6
Deals in negotiation 0-1 1-2

What Success Looks Like

By end of Week 4, you should have:

  • 30-40 authors in CRM at various stages
  • 6-12 active conversations happening
  • 1-2 deals in serious negotiation
  • 3-6 ground apple opportunities identified
  • Clear sense of which outreach methods work best for your niche

✅ Milestone: First Deal Close (Target: Week 4-8)

Your first ground apple should close somewhere in this window. Target: $10K-30K upfront payment for publishing rights.

Close First Deals + Learn Fulfillment

The Fulfillment Learning Curve

Your first deal takes 3x longer than you expect. This is GOOD. You're learning Amazon FBA, POD setup, pricing, etc. By deal 3, you'll have it down to a science.

When You Close Your First Deal:

Expect Mistakes

Your first book will have issues: formatting problems, pricing errors, Amazon listing confusion. This is NORMAL. Learn, document solutions, move faster on book 2.

⚠️ The First-Deal Trap

When you close your first deal, there's a temptation to stop hunting and focus on fulfillment. DON'T DO THIS.

Correct Approach: Spend 60% time on new deal (fulfillment), 40% time on pipeline (10 new leads/week). Otherwise you hit a revenue cliff in Month 3.

Maintain This Cadence:

  • 10 new leads researched/week
  • 5-7 outreach contacts/week
  • 2-3 new portals generated/week
  • 1 ground apple rapid response/week
  • Daily CRM reviews (10 min/day)

🎉 Major Milestone: First Deal Live on Amazon

Your first book is live, orders fulfilling automatically, author getting royalties. This is proof of concept. Everything else is repetition.

Expected Revenue by Week 8: $10K-30K from first deal upfront + $500-2K/month recurring

Scale to 8-12 Books in Portfolio

The Compounding Effect

Each book you add creates:

  • $500-2K/month recurring revenue
  • Proof of success for next author outreach
  • Learning that makes next deal faster/easier
  • Cash flow to fund larger deals
Activity Time/Week Monthly Output
New lead generation 4 hours 30-40 new qualified leads
Outreach (multi-channel) 3 hours 20-30 authors contacted
CRM + follow-ups 2 hours 60-80 follow-ups sent
Deal negotiation 2 hours 2-4 active negotiations
Fulfillment (new books) 4 hours 1-2 new books live
Month Books in Portfolio Monthly Recurring Cumulative Revenue (Year 1)
Month 3 2-3 $1K-4K $15K-35K
Month 6 4-6 $3K-8K $25K-50K
Month 9 6-9 $5K-12K $35K-70K
Month 12 8-12 $7K-15K $50K-100K

Revenue Mix

Cumulative = Upfront Payments + Monthly Recurring × Months

Example: 3 ground apples at $15K each = $45K upfront + $3K/month × 6 months = $63K total by Month 6

By Month 6, you'll have enough data to optimize:

Optimization Checklist:

🎉 Year 1 Complete: $50K-100K Revenue

You have 8-12 books generating $7K-15K/month recurring. Ground apples provided $30K-60K in upfront payments. Total Year 1 revenue: $50K-100K.

The Path to $200K: Portfolio Leverage

The Math

20 titles × $10K each = $200K/year

Some books do $5K/year, some do $20K/year. Portfolio average: $10K/title is achievable by Year 3.

Strategy Shift: Less ground apple hunting, more systematic portfolio building

Quarter New Titles Added Portfolio Size Monthly Recurring
Q1 2 12-14 $10K-15K
Q2 2 14-16 $12K-18K
Q3 1 16-17 $14K-20K
Q4 1 17-18 $15K-22K

Year 2 Target: $150K-180K Total Revenue

18 titles × $10K average = $180K annual recurring by end of Year 2

Focus Shift: Fewer new deals, more optimization of existing portfolio

Year 3 Optimization Priorities:

Scenario Titles Avg/Title Annual Revenue
Conservative 20 $8K $160K
Base Case 20 $10K $200K
Optimistic 20 $12K $240K
Activity Time/Week Notes
CRM + Follow-ups 2 hours Mostly automated, you review and approve
New Deal Negotiations 2 hours 1-2 new deals/quarter = low volume
Portfolio Management 3 hours Pricing tests, author check-ins, royalty payments
New Book Fulfillment 2 hours Only when new deal closes (infrequent)
Strategic Planning 1 hour Weekly review, optimization decisions

The Dream State

By Year 3, you're generating $200K/year with 10 hours/week of work. That's $400/hour. This is the lifestyle business goal.

🎯 Ultimate Goal Achieved: $200K+/Year

20 titles in portfolio, $200K+ annual revenue, 10 hours/week time commitment. You've built a defensible, recurring-revenue business that preserves literary legacy while generating meaningful income.
